Lake Manyara
A narrow strip of groundwater forest, savanna, and alkaline lake at the base of the Rift Valley escarpment. Famous for its tree-climbing lions, large elephant herds, and a bird-rich shoreline — flamingos, pelicans, fish eagles. Compact enough to cover in a half-day, often paired with Tarangire or visited as the Day-1 stop en route to Ngorongoro. Best months: July–October for dry-season game, November–June for birdwatching.
