Tarangire holds the largest elephant concentration in the country, and during the dry season the herds gather around the Tarangire River while the rest of the wildlife concentrates on baobab-studded plains. Quieter than the Serengeti, closer to Arusha (two hours by road), and rich enough to feel like a complete safari on its own. Best months: June–October. A natural Day-2 stop on most Northern Circuit itineraries.
