Tanzania’s fourth-largest park, an easy six-hour drive from Dar es Salaam — and the southern circuit’s hidden classic. The open Mkata Floodplain teems with elephant, lion, giraffe, zebra, and over 400 bird species, with a fraction of the northern parks’ vehicle traffic. Three days lets you cover the southern hippo pools, the central plains, and a sundowner over the Uluguru Mountains.

Udzungwa Mountains — 2-Day Hiking Safari
Tanzania’s only park you explore entirely on foot — no game-drive vehicles allowed in the core area. Two days of rainforest hiking to the Sanje Falls (170 m, three tiers, with a swim-able pool at the base) and a real chance at the endemic Iringa red colobus monkey. Pairs naturally with a Mikumi or Ruaha safari, or stands alone as a hiker’s escape.
